Ian Maxwell has repeated the tactic from inside Ibrox of disowning their Covidiot fans that rioted in Glasgow city centre to celebrate winning a football trophy.

Throughout the season the SFA have played a key supporting role, dating back to August when they postponed two Celtic matches on the back of one player breaking the protocols for the pandemic.

When five Ibrox stars were given Fixed Penalties for a similar offence in February no matches were postponed but Nathan Patterson and his pals getting two months of action in before being suspended.

On Day One of pre-season training Steven Gerrard broke the rules by car sharing to Murray Park, in July they proceeded with a friendly against Dundee United when most of the team hadn’t tested negatively in the previous seven days.

Numerous breaches went unpunished during the season with Maxwell taking that same view to the shameful events in George Square fuelled by hatred of Catholics with the authorities happy to look the other way.

Picking up on an interview with the CEO of the SFA, the Daily Record reports Maxwell saying:

That was outwith a football stadium obviously and we need to remember that. It came off the back of events at George Square and they were appalling. They were a disgrace and it is difficult to comprehend how any sector of society wants to go and behave that way.

Those individuals have no place in Scottish football, I think that is fair to say and I think clubs would absolutely reiterate that comment.

It is important that we get into stadiums, everyone has missed being able to go and watch their team and I would absolutely expect that the behaviour of fans when they get back into stadiums will be what it should be.

We have seen us take the knee before matches, we have seen us stand against racism, we have been involved in the social media boycott recently and clubs are absolutely committed.

Look at Rangers’ ‘Everyone Anyone’ programme and the good work that is doing and it is important that we continue to drive that but spectators need to take responsibility for their own actions.

The Everyone Anyone campaign appears to have had no made impact on Chris McKee who was sent off yesterday on loan to Brechin City for homophobic abuse of an opponent.
