As Peter Lawwell prepares to retire the spotlight is switching towards the Board of Directors that allowed him to remain as CEO for 17 years leading to the current crumbling club.
Every aspect of the football side is in need of an overhaul, when that is happening the business side from ticket sales to sponsorship, hospitality and commercial deals take a pounding as well.
Chairman of the club is Ian Bankier, a month short of 10 years as a director of which more than nine years have been as chairman. To the outsider it seems that Lawwell and Dermot Desmond make most of the big decisions leaving the chairman to introduce the accounts and show face at the AGM.
Other than non-exec Sharon Brown and Financial Director Chris McKay the remainder of the board have been in place for more than 15 years which virtually matches Lawwell’s time as CEO. It seems that fresh blood and ideas are for others.
Tom Allison has been a non-exec since 2001, Brian Wilson from 2006 and Desmond himself since 1995.
Incoming CEO Dom McKay may have some great ideas and initiatives but with a stale boardroom he’ll have his work cut out getting past first base with a board that appears to specialise in complacency.

For the likes of Ian Bankier & Brian Wilson a crisis at Celtic would be not getting free tickets and hospitality.
Smug, arrogant and complacent parasites. Every bit as contemptuous of the support as the Kelly/White board of the early 90s.
Every single one of them want chasing.

A dysfunctional club from top to bottom. It will take some rebuild to recover from this. Arrogance has come back to bite us big time

He’s been a non executive director since June 2005. Incredible to think he’s still in that position.

Emotion aside, they’ve just been there way too long for the good of everyone, including themselves

GB+@NCCeltic have been calling it for years, especially this season.
Unfortunately people choose to attack the message because of who it came from. The Celtic support have this on our head for letting it get to this stage— Celtic Overall1887 (@Celticoverall87) May 2, 2021
Board members in a job longer than 5-7yrs breeds Groupthink, and the success hasnt helped that as they dnt want to change the status quo which they as Tories think they brought to the table and not the players winning on the pitch..

Like other board members don’t bring anything to the party.

What does Bankier actually do. I know Wilson just likes to hooch about the bar and watch games.

Brian Wilson spends every waking minute defending his blessed British state and not much else. The man is a reactionary dinosaur
