Celtic appear to be no closer to appointing a manager than the moment, 72 days ago that Neil Lennon resigned.

The club has come in for intense criticism from supporters for the failure to appoint a new manager and the information vacuum.

Many clubs across the UK have sacked and brought in replacements since Lennon resigned after another defeat to Ross County but it seems that such a simple task is beyond the Celtic hierarchy.

Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Ross County, Aberdeen and Livingston have all appointed new managers during the course of this season.

Finding a new manager should have been a process that the club stated on December 7 when they announced a managerial review btu six months later Peter Lawwell is still unable to bring in a new boss.

This afternoon the club sent out an email to supporters with no-one prepared to put their name to what can only be described as a holding statement:

As a valued Celtic supporter, we wanted to provide you with an update on a few key subjects. The Club is working hard to complete the appointment of the new Celtic Manager and relevant football staff and will be doing all we can to confirm this as soon as possible to our supporters.

Rightly there will always be a huge appetite for information from our supporters – unfortunately we are not able to make regular public comment on this matter, but we fully understand and appreciate the need to complete this process as soon as we can.

We also acknowledge and understand the frustration of our supporters during this process, but our objective of course is to ensure that we secure the best candidate possible to take the Club forward and this is our focus. We will update all our supporters through our Club communications channels as soon as we are able to.

We are now in a transitional period in respect of our Chief Executive handover. Peter Lawwell, our CEO is working closely with incoming CEO Dominic McKay on a successful handover to ensure that we are ready for next season across all aspects of the Club, with considerable planning and preparatory work already undertaken.

The email concluded with non-committal messages about Season Ticket sales and how highly valued supporters are to the club.

There was no mention of added value to Season Ticket holders for the current season.
