Celtic will step up their efforts to appoint Eddie Howe as manager according to Stephen McGowan.

The Daily Mail reporter has been closer than anyone else to the thinking of the Celtic hierarchy over the last 17 years with expectations sky high that the former Bournemouth boss will take over as manager.

Bournemouth’s Play Off defeat to Brentford appears to have cleared the final hurdle to an appointment with no bonus payments to be made with the south coast club now having to adjust their finances to a second season out of the EPL on a reduced parachute payment.

Under the headline ‘Celtic step up move to land Howe’ McGowan predicts increased activity this week to conclude the appointment of a new manager and backroom team.

It is now more than three months since Neil Lennon resigned, Celtic’s first match of next season will be on July 19/20 with six players missing part of pre-season training due to Scotland’s involvement in the European Championships.
