Celtic have removed Palestine flags from a section of the ground ahead of tonight’s match with St Johnstone.

Within two hours of the Green Brigade showing their display in Section 111 the club made a statement that the display was unacceptable and taken down.

Having refused to allow supporter banners inside the stadium it was a shock to see the Palestine display splashed across Social Media late this morning,

Not long after it had appeared Celtic announced:

We had invited supporters to pay tribute to our Club captain, Scott Brown, by giving them the opportunity to display their own banners in the stadium.

Unfortunately a small group, which was given access in good faith, has attempted to exploit this opportunity, taken advantage of an occasion intended for our Club captain, Scott Brown, and used it for a different purpose. Clearly this is unacceptable and the display was immediately taken down by the Club.

The escalation of attacks between Israel and Palestine forces has been back in the news this week with nightly attacks being filmed and shared across the globe.

In 2016 The Green Brigade urged fans to bring Palestine flags to a Champions League qualifier against Hapoel Beer Sheva, when UEFA fined Celtic for a political display an appeal raised almost £200,000 with the funds distributed to good causes in Palestine.

Whoever allowed today’s display without knowledge of the contents will have some questions to answer in another embarrassing episode of Celtic’s season which ends on Saturday.
