Update given on the future of Celtic defender

Oostende look like letting the deadline to sign Jack Hendry to pass by without making his switch to Belgium permanent.

Last summer the defender slipped off to Oostende with barely a mention from Celtic fans but after a season earning rave reviews in the Jupiler Pro League he is in contention to start for Scotland against the Czech Republic in the opening European Championship match.

It has been an incredible turnaround for the defender with a report in the Daily Record on May 7 claiming that Oostende have until today to take up the option on a £1.5m permanent deal.

This morning, Hendry told BBC Scotland reported:

I don’t know where I’ll be next season – what will be will be. Obviously I’m concentrating on being with Scotland and letting those things happen with my representatives and the clubs.

A number of English clubs were linked with Hendry as he went from strength to strength as Oostende enjoyed their best season in a decade after narrowly avoiding relegation the previous season.

Hendry is under contract with Celtic until May 2022 but with so much uncertainty at the club it is unlikely that any quick decisions will be taken on the defender’s future if Oostende pass up on their option to buy Hendry on a permanent basis.
