There wasn’t any sign of sympathy for Kilmarnock from Celtic fans as the Ayrshire side lost out to Dundee in last night’s SPFL Premiership Play Off.

After losing the first leg 2-1 at Dens Park last night’s match looked like being in the balance but two quick goals for the visitors put that notion to rest.

Kyle Lafferty scored a penalty midway through the second half but there was no sign of a late rally as Dundee eased their way back to the top flight on a 4-2 aggregate.

Three times in the last 20 years Celtic have celebrated clinching the title at Rugby Park, in 2012 three stands were handed over to visiting supporters but the trip down the M77 isn’t a favourite away-day for a number of reasons.

Their plastic pitch has killed off the prospect of getting a decent game of football but providing a resting home for Kris Boyd, Kyle Lafferty and Kirk Broadfoot is almost as big a bone of contention.

After 28 years in the top flight during which they have won each of the cup competitions, Killie face a major rethink this morning as they drop down to a division containing Ayr United, Partick Thistle, Hamilton Accies, Dunfermline and Raith Rovers who will all be looking for promotion.

Dens Park will be back on the itinerary next season, a venue generally regarded as a good day out with a grass pitch for the new Celtic manager to get his players expressing themselves on.
