Celtic’s disastrous season has continued into June with news from Ireland that Fergal Harkin won’t be taking up the Director of Football role.

There was never any official word from the club that they were even creating such a role but with Peter Lawwell retiring and Nick Hammond quitting as Head of Football Operations in March there is a need for someone between boardroom and the dug-out to be making decisions.

Sky Sports went as far as to claim that Harkin had suggested Ange Postecoglou to Celtic for the role of manager.

With Richard Hughes dropping out of contention last week when Eddie Howe called off negotiations in-coming CEO Dom McKay doesn’t have his problems to seek.

Finding a manager, Director of Football and recruiting at least half a dozen first team players as the build up to the European Championships gets underway is a tall order. On July 1 McKay will be left holding the baby as Lawwell slips off into retirement.

When the decision with Harkin leaves negotiations with Postecoglou is anyone’s guess but it is a long time since Celtic delivered good news to their fans.
