Zenit St Petersburg are the latest club to be linked with Kris Ajer.

The defender has already spoken out that he thinks that this window is the best time to move on from Celtic following his arrival in 2016.

Ajer stated that he wanted to play in one of the top five leagues, while Zenit couldn’t offer that they would be able to put together a very lucrative package for the defender.

Russian website Eurostavka reports:

The 23-year-old Norway national team player is on the list of Zenit’s selection service, but the club has not yet entered into negotiations with Celtic on a possible transfer.

The main contender for Ayer is now the English Norwich, which is ready to offer about 12 million euros for a 198-centimeter defender. Bayer Leverkusen is also interested in the player.

Celtic will be torn over whether to look for a quick conclusion to Ajer’s transfer wish and the need for Ange Postecoglou to begin rebuilding the team.

Allowing the 23-year-old to run down his contract would be very costly even though Ajer was one of the few players to emerge from last season without his reputation tarnished.

At the moment Stephen Welsh and Nir Bitton are the only central defenders available to Postecoglou with the first pre-season friendly just a week away.
