Support and backing for Leigh Griffiths has virtually dried up among Celtic supporters.
The future of the striker remains something of a mystery after his brother tweeted then deleted mention of Griffiths becoming a free agent.
For the last four or five years there have been plenty of fans willing to claim that the former Hibs man is the best or the most natural striker in Scotland.
At the age of 30 Griffiths was unable to complete a full 90 minutes in the season just ended. With Odsonne Edouard below his best, Patryk Klimala sold in mid-season and Albian Ajeti looking like a misfit the failure to play a full match rests solely on Griffiths’ shoulders.
Celtic had an option to take up before the end of April another 12 months on the terms that they offered the striker back in 2018. With that declined it seems that his current contract will expire at the end of June allowing him to move elsewhere without a transfer fee.
A new Celtic manager could of course request a renewed contract, whether Griffiths is prepared to wait or sign up elsewhere remains to be seen.
Should Leigh Griffiths get another 12 month Celtic contract?
Yes, he is a guarantee of goals
No, time up, too many chances
Strange rumours regarding the release of Leigh Griffiths. A deadly finisher when he wants to be but perhaps it’s time for him to move on. HH pic.twitter.com/xr2AZ5JcXc

He’s getting older & thinks his talent will be enough without looking after himself. It’s fine when you’re young but as he gets older he becomes unreliable. Probably best for a challenge for him & Celtic to have strikers at the standard they want on & off the pitch.

Griffiths hasn’t turned up properly for years and the carry on with not getting properly fit last season is quite rightly the last nail in the coffin. Only himself to blame he has been let go.

He should be preparing for Scotland’s first game against the Czechs in the Euros, (and maybe scoring against England again). What a waste.

His attitude is shocking, send him on his way his way thank him for his contribution to the club. A fine player when he commits himself

I’d let him go. Been a waste of a jersey for ages. Steals a wage imo.

Only has himself to blame, has been given so many chances! Time to move on!

Good news waste of a wage can’t even keep himself fit

Leigh Griffiths scored a lot of big goals in big games for Celtic. The last couple years have been difficult but he’s been a good player for us. Dug Celtic, and multiple managers, out of many a hole over the years.
