John Hartson can’t believe that Leicester City could be about to sign Odsonne Edouard for just £18m.

The striker has a year left to run on his Celtic contract with little prospect of seeing that deal out after spending four years in Glasgow.

Edouard has been Celtic’s main striker over the last three seasons, often the only striker with his form dipping last season as the hoops surrendered the three domestic trophies that they had monopolised since 2017.

Arsenal have also been linked with the striker but since the weekend the mood has swung towards Leicester and a reunion with Brendan Rodgers.

It is impossible to find exact comparisons for transfers but last summer Aston Villa paid Brentford £28m for Ollie Watkins.

The striker had impressed during three seasons at the London side with 25 goals scored in his final season in The Championship.

Watkins joined Brentford in 2017 from Weston Super Mare without any international pedigree. That same summer Celtic paid PSG £9m for the prolific French u-17 striker who’ll leave Celtic as the record goal-scorer for the French u-21 side.

Edouard is expected to be in the French squad at the Olympics in Tokyo which begins towards the end of July.
