Turkish side Altay are reported to be keen on signing Boli Bolingoli.

The defender looks unlikely to play again for Celtic after his trip to Spain last August resulted in two matches being postponed putting the club in the spotlight of the Scottish Government and SFA.

Last season Bolingoli was sent out on loan to Basaksehir of Turkey where he appeared in the Champions League with another Turkish side impressed enough to enquire about his availability for next season.

The Sun reports:

Basaksehir have declined to take up their option to buy the 25-year-old who will return to Glasgow, where he still has two years left of his deal.

However, he’s set to be handed a chance of a return to Turkey by ambitious newly-promoted club Altay, with the Izmir club celebrating promotion to the Turkish Super League for the first time in 18 years after a playoff win.

New president Ozgur Ekmekcioglu has pledged to spend for the new season in a bid to keep Altay in the top flight and wants to make Bolongoli their first high-profile signing for the new campaign.

It would be unlikely that a move would be on a permanent basis with Celtic likely to be looking for a good chunk of the £2.5m that they paid Rapid Vienna in 2019.

Bolingoli was signed shortly before Kieran Tierney moved to Arsenal but his ability was under question early on when he was left out of the Champions League qualifier against Cluj with Callum McGregor preferred at left-back.

After a brief turn of form in his first season the left-back position was shared by Greg Taylor and Jonny Hayes with Diego Laxalt brought in last season to share the position with Taylor.
