Celtic appear to have made an addition to their backroom staff with Mark McGuigan joining the club according to a tweet from East Fife.

The 32-year-old came into senior football through Jackie McNamara at Partick Thistle, according to Soccerbase his last playing season was at Stenhousemuir in 2016/17. Last June the Daily Record reported McGuigan signing a two year contract with East Fife.

East Fife stated:

Due to work commitments, Mark McGuigan has retired from senior football with immediate effect. Mark will be starting a PhD in Sport Science with Celtic & the University of the West of Scotland.

Darren Young: “I’m absolutely gutted Mark won’t be playing for East Fife this year, but this is an excellent opportunity for him & one that he couldn’t turn down”.

Everyone at East Fife would like to wish Mark all the best for his new career.

Celtic have a vast number of staff working at all levels of the Academy through to first team level.

The reserve/Colts side has virtually been mothballed over the last 15 months but will return in July with a full fixture list in the Lowland League.

At the end of February Stephen McManus stepped up to assist John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan with first team duties leaving Tommy McIntyre in charge of the Colts squad.

With Ange Postecoglou expected to arrive at Lennoxtown this week he may be looking for a number of roles to be filled although it is highly unlikely that he has been involved in recruiting McGuigan.
