Celtic are reported to have offered a contract to Charlie Wyke.

The Sunderland striker is out of contract at the Stadium of Light which coincides with his best ever season with 25 goals from 40 starts in League One plus three substitute appearances.

Wyke has had a journeyman career to date, taking in outposts such as Hartlepool, Carlisle and Bradford before signing for Sunderland in 2018.

After scoring four goals then five in his first two campaigns at Sunderland he found form last season but his goals weren’t enough with the Black Cats losing out to Lincoln in the Play Offs to ensure a fourth season in the third flight of English football.

Under the sub-headline CELTIC LINK, Chronicle Live reports:

Celtic are believed to be one of the clubs that have offered Wyke alternative terms with the 28-year-old looking at other options.

If reports of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths moving on prove to be true Celtic will have a pressing need to bring in at least two strikers.

Neither Albian Ajeti or Vakoun Bayo have suggested that they are capable of scoring over 20 goals a season.

Whether a 28-year-old from League One is capable of doing that only the person in charge of Celtic recruitment will be able to answer.
