A Celtic source has told the Daily Record that Kevin Muscat WON’T be part of Ange Postecoglou’s backroom team.

The two men have worked together in the past with the former Rangers defender being one of the few Australian’s with a UEFA Pro Licence exemption from his disastrous spell in charge of Belgian side Sint Truiden.

A fairly detailed report this morning by Australian radio station SEN claimed that Postecoglou wouldn’t quit Yokohama Marinos on Wednesday to take charge of Celtic with Muscat part of his management team.

News about the former Ibrox defender being part of the new dream-team didn’t go down well with Celtic fans online with the club turning to their friends at the Daily Record to deny the story:

Kevin Muscat will NOT follow Ange Postecoglou to Celtic as assistant manager, Record Sport understands.

Reports in Australia indicated that the former Rangers defender was in prime position to come in as assistant to the new man.

However, Parkhead sources insist that Muscat, who spent one season at Ibrox under Alex McLeish, will be nowhere near the summer rebuild.

Having not coached in Europe since a brief stint in the Greek Third Division in 2008 Postecoglou doesn’t appear to have a trusted network of coaches that he can bring in to Celtic.

With the hoops returning for pre-season training on June 17 it looks almost certain that John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus will remain in charge.
