Dom McKay has ruled out Gordon Strachan returning to Celtic as Director of Football.

The former Celtic and Scotland boss is currently at Dundee in a DoF role with a report from Alan Nixon in The Sun claiming that a return to Celtic in a similar role was a possibility.

Strachan has been a regular on Celtic TV over the last 12 months, being fully supportive of the club that employs his sons Craig and Gavin.

The departure of Nick Hammond and Peter Lawwell’s retirement has left a void in Celtic’s football connections with an ability to tap into networks and agents essential to rebuild the squad and continue to strengthen.

Asked about Gordon Strachan becoming Director of Football, McKay said:

No. I want to make my own mark and part of that is looking at how we might want to modernise and evolve. Whether that is in the business side, the football side or the engagement side.

On the likely structure of the club, he added:

I am completely open minded. I think your suggestion was that Gordon was coming in to do a director of football role, that is not my intention. My plan is to have a look around and find out what the right structure is.

So far Postecoglou hasn’t added anyone to the squad with the first competitive match on July 20 at home to Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier.

His first real test for the team will be against Sheffield Wednesday on July 7, the first of three friendly matches during a training trip to Wales.
