Celtic’s Head of Sports Science has left the club to join RB Leipzig.

Jack Nayler was brought to the club in 2016 by Brendan Rodgers but resisted the temptation to abandon ship and head to Leicester City in February 2019.

Sports Science covers a number of key areas and is a critical department for every club involving multiple staff members.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC sports science chief Jack Nayler has moved to RB Leipzig. SunSport understands the Englishman left Parkhead weeks before Ange Postecoglou’s arrival as boss after being headhunted.

Nayler was brought in as Celtic’s head of sport science by former manager Brendan Rodgers in November 2016. He had previously held positions at Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid – as part of Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff.

Nayler stayed on when Rodgers left for Leicester City in 2019, working under Neil Lennon and then interim boss John Kennedy. But he has now taken up a post at big-spending German outfit Leipzig – leaving a backroom role for Postecoglou to fill.

Filling these sort of positions will be an important task for Dom McKay to oversee, it is likely that other staff members will step up until a replacement is brought in.

Celtic have had players back in training since June 18 with each player assessed and given individual programmes and targets.

Next week Celtic head to Wales for three matches at a training camp with the clock racing towards their first competitive game of the season on July 20 at home to Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier.
