Callum Davidson has confirmed that St Johnstone haven’t had any formal offers for any of their players.

Winning the two domestic cup competitions brought Ali McCann, Shaun Rooney, Jason Kerr and Liam Gordon firmly into the spotlight even though no-one from the Perth side made it into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

John Kennedy name-checked McCann without hinting at a forthcoming bid but with Scott Brown gone and doubts over the future of Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie midfield is one of many areas that Celtic need to strengthen.

Saints boss Davidson told The Courier:

I think there has been interest but I don’t think there has been anything formal. I had no doubt there would be people interested with the way they played last season. Fingers crossed we can hold on to them all but if we do lose any, it’s only one. We want the squad to continue to move forward.

That’s football – it’s not just St Johnstone. The same will be happening at Rangers, Celtic or Aberdeen. There will be players moving. We’ll see what happens in the next six to eight weeks.

Who, if anyone, is involved in recruitment at Celtic is one of many questions being asked by fans as the non-international players return for training this week.

Ange Postecoglou has still to fly into Scotland, having face to face talks with the new manager would seem an obvious requirement before completing any transfer discussions.
