Celtic could be facing a very awkward situation over Odsonne Edouard with Leicester City switching their striking attention to Patson Daka of RB Salzburg.

It had been assumed that Edouard was in line for a reunion with Brendan Rodgers who drove his move from Paris Saint Germain to Celtic in 2017, initially on loan then on a for year contract a year later.

That contract is now not far from expiring with Celtic facing a number of dilemmas in how to deal with their top scorer from each of the last three seasons.

Explaining the current Leicester situation, the Daily Mail reports:

They had lined up France U21 international Edouard since January but negotiations over the fee with Celtic had become protracted. Edouard had one year left on contract but his previous club Paris St Germain had a 40 per cent sell on and Celtic were asking £25m. Edouard may now look elsewhere but is also considering seeing out his contract and leaving as a free agent.

With the striker due to play for France in the Olympics next month negotiating a transfer has another level of complication.

A fee of £15m was mentioned in relation to Leicester’s interest in Edouard, naturally Celtic would want to push that higher but £25m does seem to be unrealistic for a player with 12 months left to run on his contract.

Arsenal and Brighton have both been linked with Edouard but if the details above are correct Celtic could have a very difficult situation to manage.
