Leigh Griffiths has taken a phone call from Ange Postecoglou as his Celtic career stands at a crossroads.

Celtic didn’t take up the option to renew the striker’s contract on his previous terms but could put a fresh offer to the 30-year-old.

Postecoglou faces a massive rebuilding exercise with every area of the team in need of rebuilding with the likely departure of Odsonne Edouard making the striking positions critical.

In the season just finished Griffiths failed to put in a full 90 minutes but did contribute a few memorable goals although only two since the turn of the year.

Picking up on Griffiths speaking to Sky Sports, The Sun reports the striker saying:

I spoke to the manager on Tuesday morning and things seemed positive. We’ll have another chat at the beginning of next week when he’s out of isolation and we’ll take it from there.

It was a massive thing for him just to give me a phone. He didn’t have to but he took time out his day and gave me his ideas and his plans moving forward.

So it was a positive chat, we just need to wait until he’s out of isolation, we’ll have a chat face-to-face and we’ll see where we’re at.

Every level I’ve played at, I’ve scored. There’s still a lot to come from me, I’m only 30-years-old and I’ve still got a lot of years left.

Over the last 10 days Griffiths has taken to Social Media to highlight the fitness work he has been carrying out which has brought a mixed reception from fans.

Many still maintain that he is the best striker at the club and in Scotland while others highlight his issues over the last 12 months, in particular the condition that he came back from Lockdown in and his failure to play a full 90 minutes last season.
