Ange Postecoglou could be announced as Celtic manager at some stage on Wednesday.

The Australian will take charge of the Emperor’s Cup match against Honda on Wednesday at 10am Celtic Park time. After that Andy Maher of SEN Radio believes that the farewell formalities will be completed with Celtic’s fourth month search for a new manager almost over.

A work permit, 10 days quarantine then UEFA approval over his lack of coaching qualifications will be all that stands between Postecoglou and hitting the training ground to begin the biggest overhaul of playing staff that Celtic have required this century.

Australian Radio Station SEN reports:

“I have it on very good authority that Ange Postecoglou will coach his team (Yokohama F. Marinos) on Wednesday night in the Emperor’s Cup against Honda and that will be last time that he coaches in Japan,” Maher said on SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“I am told reliably that he will be on a plane that night via Athens heading to Glasgow and will be announced as the Celtic coach thereafter upon arrival. That is what I’m being reliably informed.

“Further to that, there is a very good chance, so I’m informed, that Kevin Muscat might be his 2IC (second-in-command). We may wake up to that news on Thursday morning.”

Should Ange Postecoglou be offered the Celtic job?

It seems quite a leap for Peter Lawwell to move from the recruitment process that identified Lennon as the ideal candidate two years ago to plucking up a 55-year-old Australian whose last experience of coaching in Europe was 13 years ago in the Greek Third Division.

Dom McKay looks like inheriting the appointment with the former SRU man expected to look for a Director of Football to head up recruitment and youth development to provide the new manager with a squad of players for the season which starts on July 20/21.
