News of Billy Gilmour’s positive test were instantly met with questions of who else?
The midfielder’s positive test was announced by the SFA just after 10am this morning with attention switching to Gilmour’s movements over the last few days.
The Scotland squad flew from Teeside to London on Thursday, checked into a new hotel, played on Friday evening then flew back to their base near Darlington after the match.
It is difficult to believe that there were no close contacts with other players at risk. As well as the question of how Gilmour brought the virus into the supposed SFA bubble.
On Saturday the Scotland squad played golf, on Sunday they trained with Stuart Armstrong put up to speak to the media.
Back in January 13 Celtic players plus John Kennedy and Neil Lennon were identified as close contacts of Chris Jullien when they returned from Dubai.
In October Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie were deemed to have been close contacts of Armstrong who tested positive. The Southampton man was back playing again before Christie while Arsenal ignored the isolation rule on Tierney.
With Croatia to be faced tomorrow night the spotlight is on the Scottish Government and SFA to see if a football match is more important than public health.
We can confirm that Billy Gilmour has tested positive for COVID-19.
Having liaised with Public Health England, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow’s UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden.https://t.co/lRNWvckqCK

So, presumably he has been mixing with the rest of the team, surely they need to self isolate too?
Is that not how it goes?— Robbie Byrnes (@robbie_byrnes) June 21, 2021
They’re staying in England for exactly that reason – the Scottish rules on close contacts are much more stringent – hence why Croatia and Czech Republic changed their plans to stay in Scotland.

What an amazing coincidence he hasn’t been in close contact with one other single player for days ???? #makingitupasyougoalong

Why don’t the other players have to isolate then? Surely he hasn’t been alone the whole time? My lad has had to isolate as another child in his class been tested positive!

How does one man out of a massive group of people test positive for the most contagious viruses.. he’s surely been around everyone.. touched things others have touched.. I just don’t get this virus
