Celtic have been linked with a move for Mario Vuskovic.

The teenage Hadjuk Split defender is a current Croatian u-21 internationalist and believed to be valued at around £10m.

Celtic previously signed Jozo Simunovic from Croatia and were regularly linked with Filip Benkovic before signing him on loan from Leicester for the 2018/19 season.

Ange Postecoglou arrived at Lennoxtown yesterday with the clock racing towards his first competitive match on July 20 at home to Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier.

Virtually every area of the squad needs to be strengthened with The Sun reporting:

ANGE POSTECOGLOU jetted in on Wednesday to start work as Celtic boss — as the Hoops stepped up their bid for £5million defender Mario Vuskovic.

Celts scouts watched the Hajduk Split kid, 19, several times last season. Australian Postecoglou’s appointment has sparked Celtic back into action and SunSport understands they have started talks with the Croatian club.

Split chiefs have already decided their star defender will be sold this summer, with Italian club Torino also interested. Vuskovic could now become Postecoglou’s first signing of a huge Parkhead rebuild.

With Chris Jullien recovering from knee surgery and Kris Ajer the subject of transfer speculation the only central defenders currently available are Stephen Welsh and Nir Bitton.

Spending £5m on a teenage defender would be a very ambitious move with every arrival in that position compared with Virgil van Dijk who signed from Groningen for £2.5m in 2013.
