John Fleck has tested positive for the pandemic with six Celtic players currently alongside him at a training camp in Spain.
Callum McGregor, James Forrest, David Turnbull, Ryan Christie, Greg Taylor and Jack Hendry flew out with Fleck on Friday and have been based at the same complex as the Sheffield United star.
Last October when Stuart Armstrong tested positive Christie and Kieran Tierney were identified as close contacts despite Christie pleading that he had followed the protocols that had been in place at Celtic since returning to pre-season training in June.
Neil Lennon was very unhappy about the situation that saw him go without the midfielder in a Glasgow Derby while Arsenal ignored the quarantine rule and played Tierney who returned to London to train with his team-mates.
The Sun reports a statement from the SFA:
The Scottish FA can confirm that John Fleck has tested positive at the Scotland National Team basecamp at La Finca.
As a result he will self isolate as per Spanish Government guidelines and therefore not fly to Portugal for tomorrow’ match against the Netherlands. The rest of the squad was retested and returned negative results today.
Christie returned negative tests while in self-isolation but wasn’t allowed to play or train with his team-mates.
In January 13 Celtic players plus Lennon and John Kennedy were forced to self isolate after Chris Jullien tested positive when he returned from a training camp in Dubai.
It seems unnecessary that the SFA should take the squad of players to Spain to train then take on additional flights and travel by playing friendly matches in Portugal tomorrow and Luxembourg on Saturday.
Fleck was pictured in close contact with his Scotland team-mates when the squad flew out and has been taking a full part in training at the base in Spain.
