Neil Lennon’s standing and credibility among Celtic fans fell further today as he poured out his heart to Radio Scotland about how he was blameless for Celtic’s disastrous season.

A new breed of fan, disaffected players and a variety of other issues were to blame for the problems of the season that ended for Lennon following his second defeat to Ross County.

The warning signs were there in August when Ferencvaros knocked Celtic out of the Champions League at the Second Round stage.

After an eight match winning run the wheels came off spectacularly through the autumn with a catalogue of nightmare performances and results.

Four consecutive home defeats, back-to-back 4-1 defeats to a depleted Sparta Prague side and a Betfred Cup reverse at home to Ross County were more than red flags. Lennon’s side managed to get through 90 minutes of a Glasgow Derby without getting a shot on target.

New signings failed miserably to adapt, Leigh Griffiths couldn’t put together a 90 minute performance but Lennon hung on to past glories of the team he inherited from Brendan Rodgers as the tank ran dry.

After spells in management at Bolton and Hibs it looks like media work will be Lennon’s next chapter with the goodwill of Celtic fans virtually over for their former manager.
