Anthony Joseph has confirmed that Fergal Harkin is no longer a candidate to become Celtic’s Sporting Director.
It is quite an about turn after Sky Sports had credited Harkin as the man that had pointed Celtic in the direction of Ange Postecoglou.
Where Celtic’s hunt for a manager now rests is anyone’s guess, from the outside it looks like they could be back to square one in terms of finding a manager and Sporting Director.
Fergal Harkin has decided to remain at Manchester City after discussions with Celtic about a potential sporting director role.
It’s understood Celtic are already looking at other options as part of a restructure behind the scenes.

The role of Sporting Director is a new position at Celtic but appears the logical step to take with Peter Lawwell retiring at the end of this month and Nick Hammond resigning as Head of Football Operations.
Incoming CEO Dom McKay has no background in football with a Sporting Director viewed as the connection between the football side and the club executive.
With the first team returning for pre-season on June 17 there isn’t much time to assemble the backroom team and start adding to a squad that could be down six or seven of last season’s regular starters.
