Leicester City have apparently won the race to sign Odsonne Edouard with a £15m fee agreed according to a report in The Times.

The striker is out of contract in 12 months time with a transfer appearing to be inevitable with no sign of a new contract being agreed.

Paris Saint Germain are believed to have a substantial sell-on clause inserted in the £9m deal that they agreed with Celtic in 2018 after a successful season on loan.

The Times reports:

Leicester City have won the race to sign Odsonne Édouard from Celtic. The coveted 23-year-old is understood to prefer a reunion with Brendan Rodgers, who signed him for Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain for a club record £8million in 2018 after a successful loan spell in Scotland, over a move to either Arsenal or Inter Milan.

The deal is expected to be sanctioned as soon as Celtic confirm their new manager. They are waiting on approval from Uefa to appoint Ange Postecoglou, having agreed compensation with Yokohama F Marinos, his present club. The Australian does not possess European coaching qualifications, so must apply for an exemption based on his experience.

It seems strange that completion is dependent on Ange Postecoglou being appointed as Celtic manager, a move that could take some weeks and is dependent on approval from UEFA.

With Leigh Griffiths out of contract at the end of this month Albian Ajeti and Vakoun Bayo could be the only strikers available for Celtic’s pre-season friendlies in Wales.

Celtic also sold Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed in January, if Edouard is sold before the end of this month the club will return a substantial transfer surplus for the third year running following the sales of Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney.
