Davie Provan has delivered a blistering attack on the Celtic board telling them that they deserve every ounce of flak heading their way.

Back in October and November fans could see the problems that the club was in as results took a massive nose-dive. In response, at the start of December a managerial review was promised.

A week after declaring their backing for Neil Lennon the Irishman resigned after his second defeat of the season to Ross County as the gap at the top of the table nudged around 20 points.

Now, 100 days after Lennon left Celtic appear to be in negotiations to bring in a 55-year-old Australian who has never previously shown any interest In working in Europe following a brief spell in the Greek Third Division more than a decade ago.

Speaking to Go Radio, Glasgow Live quotes Provan saying:

10 In A Row looked like an absolute stick-on and looked like a procession. And there is no doubt that’s how the board of directors saw it and I am afraid it’s the board that has to take every ounce of flak because they certainly deserve it.

They have thrown away an advantage that no Celtic board in history have enjoyed in terms of financial dominance over Rangers. And somehow they have taken them into a position where they are already underdogs for next season.

Celtic’s depleted squad of players return for pre-season training on June 17 with time running down on Ange Postecoglou being at the first day back at Lennoxtown.

Peter Lawwell is Celtic’s long standing CEO with Dermot Desmond holding the largest individual shareholding in the club.
