Odsonne Edouard’s prospects of moving to Leicester appear to be diminishing with Brendan Rodgers reported to be closing in on a move to sign Patson Daka from RB Salzburg.

A £30m deal for a player with a very similar profile to Celtic’s French striker is being reported.

Leicester Live reports:

Leicester City are reportedly set to firm up their interest in Red Bull Salzburg forward Patson Daka. Daka emerged as a transfer target for City at the weekend with the 22 year-old also interesting Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Daka as Jurgen Klopp looks to revamp his ranks this summer after a disappointing Premier League title defence last season.

Daka, 22, is the latest overseas sensation to be tipped with a move to the English top flight after plundering 34 goals in 42 appearances for Salzburg.

The 25-cap Zambia international netted 27 times in the Austrian top flight, the proving ground for top talent like Erling Braut Haaland, Dominik Szoboszlai and Sadio Mane.

Leicester have recently been reported to be the favourites to sign Edouard with claims that a deal in the region of £15m could be sealed this month.

In the season just finished Kelechi Iheanacho contributed an impressive 19 goals to edge ahead of Jamie Vardy who scored 17 over the season.

Edouard is unlikely to be back at Celtic for pre-season training after playing for the French u-21 side at the European Championships with the Olympic Games coming up next month.

With a year left on his contract it seems likely that the former Paris Saint Germain striker will move on with Arsenal and West Ham also credited with an interest in Celtic’s record signing.
