Ange Postecoglou is hopeful that Vasilis Barkas will soon be back in action.

The keeper dislocated a finger during the warm up to Celtic’s friendly against Bristol City with Scott Bain brought in as a late replacement.

Barkas appears to be Postecoglou’s choice as goalkeeper but that could change with less than a week to go before the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

Postecoglou told The Herald:

Barkas dislocated his finger in the warm-up. I don’t think it’s anything serious. Mikey and Dembele, we will just have to see how they recover and what sort of diagnosis there is in the next 24 hours. I’m not a doctor. I will leave that to the experts.

Celtic paid £4m for Barkas a year ago but the former AEK Athens keeper never looked comfortable as Celtic’s season collapsed for a variety of reasons.

Mat Ryan was linked with Celtic before joining Real Sociedad but with three internationalists, Conor Hazard made a late appearance last night, it is unlikely that another goalkeeper will be a priority for the new manager.

Barkas will have his injury assessed while Celtic return from Wales with Postecoglou facing his first home match when the hoops take on Preston North End on Saturday.
