Celtic Park could be back at full capacity before the end of August.

After opening up with 2,000 fans watching the friendly against Preston there were 9,000 at the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

Tomorrow there will be 18,500 fans in to watch the friendly against West Ham but that is still less than one third of capacity.

Next month Celtic have SPFL matches against Dundee and St Mirren as well as further UEFA games with over 40,000 Season Ticket holders eager to get back into their old routines.

Discussing the staged increase in attendances a spokesperson for Glasgow City Council told the Daily Record:

We really want to see events, including matches, back as close to normal as the regulations allow. It’s good for the economy and frankly it’s just good for people to be able to do the things they love doing.

But in doing it safely, we’re stepping up how many people can be in stadiums match by match, starting at 50% of safe capacity, then 75%, then 100%. We think this gives the right balance and allows Glasgow’s clubs to start moving towards normality.

No away fans will be at the return leg against Midtjylland on Wednesday or the SPFL opener away to Hearts on July 31. A return to full capacity will allow Celtic to sell additional Season Tickets and also tickets on a match by match basis.
