Sunderland are reported to be considering a move for Leigh Griffiths.

The striker signed a one year contract with Celtic on July 1 but was sent home from the club’s Welsh training camp on July 7 while subject to a Police Scotland investigation.

Griffiths has been cleared of any criminality but hasn’t been pictured in training and was missing from the squad that lost 1-0 to Preston yesterday.

Judging by the reaction on social media there is little appetite among Celtic fans to see Griffiths playing again but with a recently signed 12 month contract the club has to act very carefully.

Late on Saturday night The Sun reported:

SUNDERLAND are lining up a shock move for controversial Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

The Black Cats are exploring a loan move for the Hoops ace — who will find out where he stands in coach Ange Postecoglou’s plans shortly.

Sunderland gaffer Lee Johnson is chasing a goalscorer, and lost hitman Charlie Wyke to Wigan recently.

Sunderland are now preparing for their fourth successive season in League One with talisman Aiden McGeady signed up for another season.

The goals that Griffiths piled in during the 2015/16 season would be welcome anywhere but last season he failed to complete a full match while off the pitch he is again attracting unwanted attention.
