Brighton are close to putting in a bid for Odsonne Edouard.

The striker is in the final year of his contract but an anticipated move to Leicester hasn’t materialised with the Foxes signing Patson Daka from RB Salzburg in a £23m deal.

A year ago Celtic would probably have rejected that sort of figure but in the current climate any offer approaching £20m will be given serious consideration.

The Express reports:

Brighton are set to put some of their pending £50million windfall into a move for Celtic star Odsonne Edouard. The Seagulls have already registered their interest in the talented French striker.

The English Premier League side is set to pocket £50m upfront from England star Ben White’s pending move to Arsenal. They are now keen to see if a deal can be done for Edouard, who is in the final year of his contract. Brighton boss Graham Potter is prepared to make an offer but won’t be held to ransom.

Edouard joined Celtic on loan in 2017 from Paris Saint Germain before penning a permanent deal for £9m a year later with the French side believed to have a 40% sell on clause.

Albian Ajeti is the only other striker currently available to Ange Postecoglou by Kyogo Furuhashi can play through the centre as well as out wide.

Brighton probably wouldn’t be Edouard’s ideal choice of club but like Kris Ajer and Brentford the platform of the EPL will offer a route to a subsequent move.
