Celtic are reported to have made a bid of £3m for Brandon Soppy.

The Rennes defender has a great football pedigree but after starting just five first team matches it would be a major gamble to bring the right-back to Scottish football.

Perhaps three or four years ago when Celtic had a settled side, evolving and developing Soppy could be brought in but with the current state of the squad most supporters are looking for experienced, time-served pros that can make an instant impact.

Right-back seems to be an area of concern for Ange Postecoglou who has played Tony Ralston, Lee O’Connor and Osaze Urhoghide in that position during his two friendlies in charge.

Over the last two years Hatem Abd Elhamed, Moritz Bauer, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonjo Kenny have played at right-back with Kris Ajer also called on for a few outings.

Soppy is under contract for a further year at Rennes, if there are no signs of a new contract being agreed a transfer during this window looks likely with other French sides interested.
