Celtic midfielder moves out

Barry Coffey has joined Cork City in the Irish First Division on loan.

With a March to November season the young midfielder will go straight into action for Colin Healy’s side.

Coffey has had little opportunity to impress at Celtic over the last two years due to Lockdown and the lack of any regular reserve team football.

Earlier this year Coffey went out on loan to Cliftonville with the chance of games at Cork City likely to put him in the shop window for a move elsewhere with his contract expiring at the end of this year.

With Ewan Henderson, Kerr McInroy, Luca Connell and Scott Robertson around Celtic are overloaded with central midfielders with Liam Shaw adding to that competition.

Coffey helped Ireland’s u-19 side to the semi-finals of the European Championships in 2019 but since then his career has stalled.
