Celtic ‘won’t hang around’ in their talks with Rubin Kasan over Carl Starfelt.

The defender has been identified as someone wanted by Ange Postecoglou but eight days ahead of facing Midtjylland he remains with the Russian side.

Even if a deal was to go through today there is no certainty that Starfelt will face the Danes with quarantine issues to be addressed.

A fee between £4-5m would have to be agreed for the defender who signed a contract extension in February with the Daily Record reports:

Hoops chiefs are also still in the hunt to land Sweden international Starfelt, despite the move hitting a snag over the transfer fee.

Celtic were confident they could land the centre-back for around £4m, but Rubin Kazan are attempting to bump the fee as they face a hefty sell-on clause with former club Goteborg.

The 26-year-old played 45 minutes of a pre-season friendly for Rubin on Saturday and Celts won’t hang around if talks continue to stutter.

Celtic have two more friendlies to play, against Bristol City and Preston North End before Postecoglou faces his first competitive test.

Whatever the Gotaborg percentage is shouldn’t really be an issue, if the player is interested in the move for the sake of £500,000 or so a deal could be done.

Celtic picked up an unexpected £1.75m from the sale of Jack Hendry to Oostende and were reported to have picked up £3.5m on the sale of Patryk Klimala to RB New York in April.

Celtic have also been linked with Mario Vuskovic, Ben Davies and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
