Celtic’s interest in Aaron Hickey faces serious competition with two Italian clubs linked with the defender.

Fiorentina and Roma are apparently showing interest in Hickey who left the Celtic Academy in the summer of 2018 having just turned 16.

Celtic seem to have been trying to re-sign Hickey for two years but as his career takes off the price tag also increases with £3.5m being quoted on the back of a dozen appearances for Bologna.

The Sun reports:

Sunsport reported that Celtic have made a £3.5million bid for the former Hearts defender as new coach Ange Postecoglou begins to re-shape his squad.

With only Greg Taylor as an established left-back, Hickey – a long-standing Celtic target – has emerged as one of the names on the Australian’s wants list.

But newly-appointed Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has also drawn up a series of transfer targets and Italian media are reporting that Hickey’s name is on it.

His Italian situation is further complicated by the fact that Jose Mourinho’s Roma are looking for a replacement left-back after Spinazzola’s Achilles injury at the Euros.

Boli Bolingoli was in the squad that flew to Wales yesterday but it’s difficult to imagine either the player or the club wanting that relationship to continue.

Ange Postecoglou faces a massive rebuild job and looks increasingly likely to be facing Midtjylland with the same group of players that failed on all fronts last season.

Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw are the only new faces in Wales where Celtic go public tomorrow with a friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.
