Celtic are ‘stepping up their bid’ to sign Aaron Hickey with reports that a bid of £3.4m will be made to Bologna.

The teenager left the Celtic Academy in the summer of 2018, since making his Hearts debut in May 2019 he has constantly been linked with returning to Celtic with the transfer fee spiralling.

The Italian Job is the back page story on the Daily Mail which details the £3.4m bid that Celtic are believed to have tabled to Bologna.

If the bid is successful, it will complete an incredible circle for Hickey who only turned 19 last month.

Straight away he impressed in a struggling Hearts side, in the 2019 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic he was probably the best player in maroon.

Last season Craig Levein told BBC Scotland that Celtic had tried five or six times to resign the defender but he opted to move to Bologna where he made 11 appearances in Serie A.

Celtic did have a 30% sell-on clause when Hickey left for Hearts but it looks like being a very costly exercise to secure the return of the teenager.
