The Daily Record has bitten with a bonkers story linking James Tavernier with a move to Manchester United.

On the day that a £73m deal was secured with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho some over-excited minds have been speculating on the Theatre of Dreams adding Tav to their cast list!

Mark Warburton splashed out £250,000 to sign the set-piece specialist from Wigan but when the heat was on in the 2019 Betfred Cup Final the Ibrox skipper handed the penalty to Alfredo Morelos who watched Fraser Forster save his effort.

Regular attempts to generate interest in Tav have failed to bring in any bids with his pre-Ibrox CV reading journeyman with stop offs at places like MK Dons, Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Carlisle.

The Record reports:

Rangers captain James Tavernier has been linked with an unlikely move to Manchester United.

The right-back bagged 15 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last season as he led his team to the Premiership title.

And his performances were so impressive that one website is even linking Tavernier with a sensational move to Old Trafford.

According to 90min they’re one of four Premier League clubs who are monitoring the Rangers right-back, and consider him a low-cost alternative to Kieran Trippier.

However, it’s unlikely the Red Devils would move for the 29-year-old with Aaron Wan-Bissaka already in place.

Video Celts understands that it is unlikely that the Red Devils will move for out of favour Everton defender Jonjo Kenny.

Gareth Southgate named four right-backs in his original 26 man squad for the European Championships, Tav wasn’t one of them.
