Cameron Carter-Vickers is the latest defender linked with a move to Celtic.

The American internationalist spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and is surplus to requirements with Spurs.

Celtic have been linked with Carl Starfelt and Mario Vuskovic as they try to plug holes in central defence and prepare for the expected departure of Kris Ajer.

Erik Sviatchenko was linked with Celtic a few weeks ago but it seems likely that he’ll be facing the hoops on July 20 when the competitive action gets underway.

Who’ll be in the Celtic defence is the big question with the Daily Record reporting:

Celtic are in the hunt for US international Cameron Carter-Vickers as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his defence.

The defender is on his way out of Tottenham and Record Sport understands contact has been made between the Parkhead club and the Premier League giants.

Carter-Vickers spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and the Cherries and Newcastle are also interested in a permanent move for the 6ft central defender who is valued at £5m and has eight caps for the USA.

But Celtic, who are also in advanced talks with Rubin Kazan over Sweden international defender Carl Starfelt, would seriously interest the 23-year-old particularly with the Champions League qualifying campaign just around the corner.

A well-placed source said: “Cameron is looking for a new challenge and a few clubs are interested. Celtic and Bournemouth are the most serious right now. He’s looking to get something sorted as soon as he can with the season just around the corner.”

Carter-Vickers has been at Spurs since 2015 but like many players he has yet to start a match in the EPL, last season he played 21 times in The Championship as Bournemouth lost out in the Premiership Play Off to Brentford.

Previously he had been out on loan at Luton, Stoke, Swansea, Ipswich and Sheffield United.
