Leigh Griffiths is out of the Celtic squad to face Midtjylland tomorrow night.

Last season the 30-year-old failed to complete a full 90 minutes despite making a variety of claims about how fit he has been.

Griffiths missed out on pre-season training at Lennoxtown, his involvement in Wales only lasted a few days before he was sent packing as part of a Police investigation.

When he came on as a substitute against West Ham he was booed by a significant number of Celtic supporters with Ange Postecoglou refusing to criticise the fans.

Celtic flew out to Denmark yesterday, SNS produced 41 images but none of them contained Griffiths.

The Sun reports:

It’s believed Griffiths’ absence is not due to any off-the-field issue. SunSport understands the controversial hitman failed to travel after picking up yet another calf injury in training.

Griffiths, 30, was part of the first-team squad during the final session at training on Monday. But he complained of a muscle strain and a decision was taken for him not to make the journey.

Liel Abada is the only addition to last season’s squad available to play against Midtjylland, Kris Ajer and Scott Brown have moved on with the loan signings returning to their parent club.

With speculation that Odsonne Edouard will be joining Brighton after Wednesday’s match Celtic could go into the opening SPFL match on Saturday with Albian Ajeti as the only striker available.

In an interview with Radio Scotland last month Griffiths claimed that he had been injury free this year.
