A brutal tackle on Karamoko Dembele added to Celtic’s woes during the 0-0 draw with Bristol City. Not many Celtic fans were prepared to describe it as a challenge or tackle.

Kasey Palmer was the culprit with a late attack on the winger who hobbled off to be replaced by Ewan Henderson.

There seems to be a convention in friendly matches that players are rarely booked let alone red carded, with that in mind it almost gives players licence to do whatever they like provided the match isn’t competitive.

Coming through the ranks Karamoko is well used to physical attention, his size and style of play has always attracted a certain level of ‘attention’.

In the professional ranks there should be a greater level of respect and protection, that was posted missing last night with Celtic and the player now having to wait to discover the extent of the injury.

Last season largely passed Karamoko by, the last thing that he needs is to miss out on part of pre-season with a new management team that appears more open to giving him an opportunity.
