Ange Postecoglou has claimed that he hasn’t done a great job since taking charge of Celtic.

Barring his inability to oversee a recruitment process and complete transfer negotiations while trying to put a team on the park there doesn’t seem much more that the new Celtic boss can do.

With just one transfer fee paid out going into the first competitive game of the season Postecoglou hasn’t been given the backing that over 40,000 Season Ticket holders would have expected.

Liel Abada delivered the goal that appeared to give Celtic the platform to progress but legacy issues in the shape of Nir Bitton and Vasilis Barkas.

Discussing his own role in last night’s performance, Postecoglou told the Daily Record:

I don’t think I’m at a disadvantage, my role is to try and support these players and try to prepare them the best I can for what is in front of us.

I haven’t done a great job so far to be honest, because with the disruptions we’ve had, we haven’t been able to bring the players in. My role is to try and reinforce this squad and to try to prepare this squad for what is ahead, and to their credit, the players didn’t look for excuses tonight

They put in a solid shift, and I’m just disappointed they didn’t get the rewards for what I thought was an outstanding performance.

After his first dose of competitive action Postecoglou has eight days to put together a team and a plan to win next week in Midtjylland.

Dane Murray will have to partner with Stephen Welsh at the back, alternatives are thin on the ground but the big decision will be whether or not Postecoglou sticks with Barkas in goals.
