Marian Shved’s return to Mechelen is inching closer according to Tom Caluwe.

The winger spent last season on loan at the Belgian side with Sporting Director Caluwe working on another deal with Celtic.

Shved hasn’t been involved in any of Celtic’s pre-season preparations and seems highly unlikely to get his chance under Ange Postecoglou who has just signed two wingers.

Celtic are probably looking for Shved to leave on a permanent basis but with a lack of interest it looks like Mechelen have a strong hand in negotiations.

Caluwe told GVA:

We should not be secretive about this. We still want Marian to join and we try to reach an agreement as soon as possible. We really need a player with his profile. I’m always very careful about that.

It’s going in the right direction, but a transfer is only in order when everything is signed. Something can always come up, but we hope he signs soon.

Shved was part of Celtic’s disastrous January 2019 transfer programme, before the end of February Brendan Rodgers had left for Leicester City.

Vakoun Bayo, Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez have already left, now after three substitute appearances it seems likely that Shved will join the exodus.

One obstacle could be that Shved is under contract until May 2023.
