Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that injury has kept Leigh Griffiths out of the Celtic squad to face Midtjylland.

The striker played for 35 minutes of Saturday’s 6-2 defeat from West Ham during which he was booed by a significant number of the 18,500 fans inside the ground.

With Odsonne Edouard the subject of transfer speculation Celtic are short on striking numbers with a win over Midtjylland taking them into a third round qualifier against PSV Eindhoven or Galatasaray.

Asked about Griffiths, Postecoglou told the Daily Record:

He picked up a slight injury yesterday (Monday) in training, which was disappointing for him because he was obviously going to be part of the travelling party.

Albie (Ajeti) trained yesterday and he is fine, so he will be involved. Everyone else from the weekend, apart from Leigh, pulled up fine.

Liel Abada is the only addition to the squad from last season but Postecoglou has been aware of that situation for 10 days.

The Israeli scored the opening goal in the first leg but after Nir Bitton was sent off he was substituted for Dane Murray.

The 18-year-old has still to start a competitive match but seems certain to line up alongside Stephen Welsh tomorrow night.
