Leigh Griffiths faces a frosty future at Celtic despite being cleared of any criminality following a Police Scotland investigation.

The striker wasn’t spotted at Lennoxtown in the early stages of pre-season training but on Thursday, July 1 he was handed a 12 month contract.

Griffiths joined the Celtic squad that flew to Wales on July 4 but returned to Glasgow two days later when the Police Scotland investigation was announced.

Postecoglou has had to prepare his side without the former Scotland striker. Odsonne Edouard missed last night’s 0-0 draw with Bristol City due to injury, when Albian Ajeti picked up a knock Celtic finished the match with Owen Moffat in the striking role.

Asked about the possible availability of Griffiths, Postecoglou told The Sun:

You know how much time I have spent thinking about that? You’ve asked me and I’ve just thought about it. We’ll let it run its course and once it’s done and we get back up to Scotland then we’ll deal with it then. I’ve not spoken to him.

Celtic have multiple issues to consider over Griffiths but in terms of fitness he is unlikely to be in shape for Tuesday’s match against Midtjylland in the Champions League.

Last season Griffiths missed out on Celtic’s training trip to Loughborough and the three friendlies in France. He did play in a pre-season match against Hibs but failed to complete 90 minutes over the course of the season.
