Celtic are reported to have put a £20m price tag on Kris Ajer.

With a year left to run on his contract that looks to be a high risk strategy with the club allowing Dedryk Boyata to walk away on a Bosman in 2019.

Newcastle, Norwich and Bayer Leverkusen have all been linked with Ajer but it seems that £12m is as high as they are prepared to bid.

Norwegian broadcaster TV2 reports:

According to TV 2, Celtic are demanding around 20 million pounds, 239 million Norwegian kroner, to release the Norwegian midfielder in this transfer window.

Clubs such as Norwich, Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen are said to have placed bids for the 23-year-old, but no one wants to pay what Celtic demands.

As TV 2 understands it, the bids must have been over ten million pounds. The latest bid – from Brentford – is said to have been for twelve million pounds, in addition to Celtic being able to get another three million pounds in various bonuses.

As of today, all clubs have withdrawn from the negotiations – and at the moment everything indicates that Kristoffer Ajer will thus remain in Celtic.

Ajer was missing from the Celtic side that beat Charlton 2-1 today as Ange Postecoglou tries to find a winning formula for the fast approaching Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

As the most experienced defender at the club Ajer should be an automatic pick for the matches against the Danes but much will depend on how Ange Postecoglou reads the defender’s attitude.

The new Celtic boss is looking for commitment from players but is short of options in central defence where Nir Bitton and Stephen Welsh are the only options with any experience of the position.
