Vasilis Barkas looks like getting the chance to relaunch his Celtic career.

The goalkeeper was a £4m signing from AEK Athens last summer but never looked settled or confident as the season unfolded with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard also spending time as first choice.

Ange Postecoglou got his first serious look at the squad he inherited in yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Sheffield United with Barkas starting the match before being replaced by Bain.

The new Celtic boss has inherited a squad lacking in a number of positions but regardless of how they fared last season he does have three international goalkeepers to choose from.

Filling the position of Fraser Forster was never going to be straightforward but speaking to The Sun after his first match Postecoglou seems prepared to go with Barkas:

Whatever did happen last year, the important thing is how you react THIS year. I don’t measure it in money spent or age or experience.

To me, it’s just about their attitude and their ability to play the football I want. Now it’s an opportunity for ALL of them to embrace what we’re doing.

Celtic face Charlton on Saturday in their second match of the season with no new signings likely to be involved.

In the same interview Postecoglou mentioned being short at centre-back, wingers and right-back.
