Ko Itakura and Cameron Carter-Vickers are among the centre-half’s that Celtic are considering taking on loan.

Carl Starfelt signed a four year contract on Wednesday but Ange Postecoglou is still short of options at the back.

Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjo Kenny regularly played in defence last season but with their loans expired there was no attempt to make those moves permanent.

Loam signings aren’t ideal as last season demonstrated but with such a big overhaul required it might be a route that Celtic have to go down.

The Daily Record reports:

Celtic target Ko Itakura has admitted it is his dream to play for a world famous club that will help him raise his profile.

Manchester City’s Japanese international is amongst a number of centre-half loans that Ange Postecoglou is keen on, as is Tottenham Hotspur’s American central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Both deals have been sounded out as what it would take financially, although City are looking for a hefty loan fee for Ikatura.

Celtic are amongst a number of top European clubs who are keen to take him after his recent loan success at Groningen.

Itakura is currently at the Olympic Games in Japan meaning that any move would be delayed until well into August once quarantine is taken into consideration.

Cameron-Vickers spent last season on loan at Bournemouth but has little prospect of breaking into the Spurs defence.

On Wednesday Celtic are likely to go with Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray in defence against Midtjylland.
