Celtic are reportedly ‘really close’ to signing Carl Starfelt from Rubin Kazan. The news comes from Italian based transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who has 3.4m followers on Twitter.
Central defence seems to be the priority area for Ange Postecoglou to strengthen with Stephen Welsh, Dane Murray and Leo Hjelde featuring in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Kris Ajer could feature in the remaining matches in Wales but is more likely to be elsewhere than wearing a Celtic shirt when the transfer window closes.
With 11 days to go until Celtic face Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier there is a real urgency to bring in at least one central defender with Romano telling the Here We Go podcast:
Carl Starfelt is an interesting centre-back and he’s really close to joining Celtic, they are in negotiations with Rubin Kazan. They are working to find an agreement with the player but they are confident.
Starfelt moved to Rubin Kazan in 2019 from IFK Gotaborg and is under contract with the Russian side until June 2024. A fee of £4m has been mentioned for the 26-year-old who has three Swedish international caps.
